Harald Röker placing a bolt at the Scogliera di Salinella
As already written in the article "San Vito lo Capo - Re-bolting campaign 2025" in San Vito lo Capo many routes have been excellently re-bolted already. A first goal is the re-bolting of all remaining climbs equipped with A2-stainless-steel bolts on the Scogliera di Salinella. This cliff is due to its vicinity to the sea heavily exposed to the elements.
Marco Peralta from Timbuktu Hostel (external link) is the driving force behind this re-bolting campaign. Thanks to his enormous dedication and the unbelievable commitment of the whole re-bolting team, coordinated by Daniele Arena, already 2025 an enormous part of the critical routes in the northern parts of the Scogliera di Salinella have been made safe with titanium bolts.
A huge "thank you" to Marco, to Daniele, to all local supporters, to all who help and first and foremost to all of you, who make possible the financing of this re-bolting campaign by your donations!
Re-bolting campaign 2026As already held out in prospect in the last article, the re-bolting work does not stop and is continued also in 2026. The last sectors subject of re-bolting actions have been CAMPO BASE (routes no. 17-34*, just the ones needed to be re-bolted) and GROTTA DEL CAVALLO (routes 1-4*). In both sectors bolt-in bolts and hangers of titanium have been used for the re-bolting. At CAMPO BASE already some time ago a bunch of routes have been re-bolted with titanium glue-in bolts and some routes are quite new dating to 2017 to 2022; hence the main part of the routes there is safe now. Just the routes 3-9* (A2-glue-in bolts dating to 2009) and 10-12* (A4 bolt-in bolts dating to 2009) are not re-bolted yet. But there are already plans to re-bolt these in autumn 2026. * Sicily-Rock 9th edition |

Tips for sectors with routes re-bolted in the years 2017-2026: (To be sure which routes exactly are re-bolted, check the types of the bolts at place!) • WHITE WALL (Titanium: 6a - 7c+) More sectors and routes bolted with Duplex-steel: • C2 - FAKIROS WALL DESTRA There are also many routes bolted with A4-bolts of a newer date, as for example in the sectors FAKIRELLA SINISTRA, ORANGE WALL, a big part of FAKIROS PILAR (except the routes 5, 6, 9*), CANALINO DESTRA, TWO CAVES TOPO3, ACCANTO AL MURO. * Sicily-Rock 9th edition |
Furthermore in the climbing guidebook Sicily-Rock (external link) at each route is listed which type of bolt and which material is used (if it could be figured out). There do exist many sectors which have been bolted already during development with bolts made from duplex-steel or A4 (AISI 316 or AISI 316L). Also many sectors and particularly critical routes have been re-bolted with better material in the recent past.
With the re-bolting actions 2025/26 already most routes equipped with A2-bolt-in-bolts at the Scogliera di Salinella have been re-bolted. The main focus hereby was on the sectors C1 (Scogliera di Salinella Nord) and C2 (Scogliera di Salinella Centro). In these two main sectors about 50 of the 524 routes are waiting for re-bolting.
At the moment more urgently needed funds for the purchase of the high quality material (mostly titanium) needed for the further re-bolting are collected ...

A BIG THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
